Five years after their last album, Vreid return with "The Skies Turn Black"—a powerful new chapter forged through challenge, reflection, and renewed creative fire. Reconnecting with the essence of their Sognametal roots while pushing into new territory, the band delivers eleven tracks that balance raw aggression with atmosphere and depth.
The album took shape with “From These Woods,” written during a late-night session in a remote mountain cabin. That moment of inspiration helped realign the band and set the tone for what would become one of their most focused releases to date.
The title track, “The Skies Turn Black,” stands at the heart of the album. Written by bassist Jarle Kvåle as a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and the music that shaped his life, the track carries a deeply personal weight and a sense of reverence that resonates throughout.
Elsewhere, Vreid expand their sonic reach. “Kraken,” composed for an upcoming film project, adds a cinematic dimension tied to the band’s earliest days, while “Loving the Dead” features a striking guest appearance from Agnete Kjølsrud (Djerv), bringing new intensity and emotional depth.
With hand-drawn artwork by Kim Holm and a powerful production from Anders Nordengen, The Skies Turn Black captures a band both honoring their past and charging forward—sharper, heavier, and more inspired than ever.
Catch Vreid’s return to European stages as they join Hypocrisy, Abbath and Vomitory on a major tour in 2026.
Vreid remains one of Norway’s most resilient and forward-driven metal bands, shaped by history, strengthened by adversity and still driven by an unshakable creative fire.
